This notice is to inform teams that the proposed ETCS Stage C upgrade between Paddington National Rail station and Ealing Broadway has been delayed. The complexity of the installation has meant that it is no longer viewed as being financially viable, especially given the limited safety benefits it will bring. Moreover, the design of the system would have taken 4 years to complete as it would require a bespoke software solution. The systems installation may also have had a significant impact on the delivery of the HS2 programme. As such, Network Rail Western have decided, after consultation with all affected train operators and the support of the Office for Rail and Road, to delay installation of ETCS Stage C until they are able to provide a ‘no signals’ solution (marker boards only). No formal date has been specified for this, however it is currently projected for delivery in CP 8, which is 5 to 10 years from now.

This is simply to let Drivers know that we have updated the Driver Prompt Cards following significant feedback and consultation with Drivers, DTMs, ASLEF DFC, and colleagues in Alstom. On the 26^th July ’23 there was a trespass event at Hayes & Harlington, during which up to 26 members of the public crossed the 90mph Up & Down Relief lines between platforms 4 and 3 whilst open to traffic.
